Walking Trails

Kalamos offers a number of great walking trails through amazing forested coastlines, stunning beaches, past many historic sites, windmills, churches and through the village of Kalamos which is also the main port.

Episkopi to Kalamos port

Kalamos offers a number of great walking trails, one being a walking trail following the forested coastline between the villages of Episkopi in the north and Kalamos Port and over to the amazing Agrapidia beach with its old windmill and clear blue water.

Highlights of this walking trail includes the Venetian Castle of Kalamos from 13th century BC, Agios Donatos a Greek Orthodox Chapel on the beach, windmills, large forest areas and the quaint village of Kalamos with is winding streets.

Kalamos to Kefali (Port Leone)

Setting off from Kalamos Town with it’s winding streets and houses displaying typical island architecture, to the abandoned village of Kefali, with its Venetian name Porto Leone, abandoned after an earthquake in 1953.

The walk takes you along the coastline through olive groves and, shrubland that leads to Kefali, here you see ruins of an old olive press, stone threshing floors and remnants of windmills. A chance to step back in time to past island life. The village is located on the southeast of the island in a large, sheltered bay and is beautiful spot to take a refreshing dip after your walk, in the crystal-clear waters of the Ionian sea. During the walk we get to enjoy great views of the neighboring island of Kastos.
